New Vampire Weekend video, “Cousins”

November 19, 2009

Everyone gets a partial every time Vampire Weekend so much as speak to the media, and at times it can be a bit too much. But a lot of what they do is just downright cool, and it warrants the hype.

Like, for instance, the video for the second single from their upcoming album, Contra. The song, “Cousins,” is a fast paced, energetic punk song similar to “A-Punk” from their self-titled debut.

Stylistically the video for “Cousins” is also similar to the video for “A-Punk,” which makes sense, because it is directed by the same directors (Hammer & Tongs).

The video shows the band in an alley playing instruments (even bells!), singing and even holding lists while riding a conveyor belt. This loopy (get it?) video is a lot of fun and really displays a lot of exuberance from each band member.

“Cousins” is available now, digitally, from XL records and a 7″ will be released Dec. 15. The band’s sophomore album, Contra, will be released on Jan. 12, 2010.

Or you can just listen to the song here:
