Josh Ritter (briefly) announces new album

January 20, 2010

In a deft marketing move Josh Ritter very coyly announced that he would be releasing a new album today. The announcement was made to Ritter’s email followers and via his Web site.

The announcement came cloaked in the announcement of a headline show for Josh and his band at Town Hall in New York City.

The text of the announcement reads like this:

“Josh and the band will be playing New York City’s Town Hall on May 20th… This will be a very special show, as Josh’s new album will have been just released (more info to come)…. Get your tickets now, folks.”

Though details of the album are still unavailable we can be sure that the album will be released sometime mid-May or sooner.

Ritter’s last album, The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter, was a über-literate folk opus of grand proportions. Though it did not reach the heights of his 2006 masterpiece The Animal Years, it was a wonderful collection of songs and sets the bar quite high for his next effort.

More details will be shared via Skinny Ankles as Ritter and his people make them available. In the meantime, enjoy the video for “To the Dogs or Whoever” from the good people at Juan’s Basement:

Ahh hints at a date! very excited. Based on the new live songs this album looks to be very mellow, a departure from Historical Conquests. Josh is the best
